Job Description
Upendo is a dynamic, growing Community Based Organization (CBO) which currently provides holistic support to orphaned and vulnerable children with food, education, healthcare, vocational skills and psychosocial support in Kilifi Town, Kenya. The Project is managed by the Project Director under the supervision of an active Board of Management and with the support of an Assistant Administrator, a Social Worker and several support staff. We are seeking an innovative, active, and effective self-driven Communications Intern to join our amazing team.

Objective of the Job The Communications Intern will be responsible for:
- Graphics Designing: Assist in the creation of visual content for digital and print materials, including social media posts, infographics, presentations, and promotional materials.
- Daily administration: Provide administrative support to the communications team, including scheduling meetings, managing the team calendar and organizing files and documents.
- Assisting in drafting and proofreading internal and external communications, such as event briefs, articles, newsletters, and reports.
- Supporting the team in procurement of communications products and review and submission of team reports.
- Managing and tracking progress of the Communication workplan and budget.
- Content management: Supporting content creation efforts by researching, writing, and editing engaging copy for various platforms, including website content, blog posts, and press releases.
- Ensuring timely publication of communication content across all relevant channels.
- Branding: Assisting in the creation of branded and visibility materials.
- Assisting with logistical tasks, such as venue branding and visibility, attendee management, and post-event evaluations.
- Coordinating with external partners, vendors, and stakeholders as needed for joint campaigns or events.
- Video and Photography: Capturing high-quality photos and videos from the project’s events and activities.
- Maintaining an organized image archive and collaborate with teams and partners to provide visual content that enhances our storytelling and communication efforts.
- Performing other relevant tasks as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the communications team.
Requirements and Qualifications
- A Diploma or Degree in Journalism or Communication, Marketing, Graphic Design or another related area of study.
- Strong visual storytelling skills.
- Proficiency in graphic design and publishing software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and creativity.
- Competent in videography, photography and digital content creation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, content management systems and social media platforms (Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.).
- Strong organizational and time management abilities, with the capacity to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively.
