Job Description

CEFA an Italian Non-Governmental Organisation established in 1972 and active in 10 Countries in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe is seeking an experienced Beekeeping Expert to provide technical coordination and support for the beekeeping component of the AGROBLUE Project, which promotes sustainable agriculture and blue economy livelihoods in coastal Kenya. The project AGROBLUE - Promoting Sustainable Agriculture and Blue Economy in Kenya is a 36-month initiative implemented in four sub-counties (Galole, Tana Delta, Msambweni, and Lunga Lunga) within the counties of Kwale and Tana River, Kenya. The project is implemented by a consortium of partners with extensive experience in resilient agricultural models and the blue economy, led by Action Against Hunger (ACF) in collaboration with the European Committee for Training and Agriculture (CEFA), MWARP, and the Politecnico di Milano. The initiative works closely with the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Health to ensure institutional sustainability and long-term impact.

  • Location: Kwale & Tana River Counties
  • Salary: KES 48,000–60,000 gross/month
  • Contract: 1 year, renewable
  • Expected Start: September 2026

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and supervise beekeeping activities and provide technical support to farmer groups.
  • Conduct field visits and technical assessments of apiaries, colony health, hive productivity, and honey production.
  • Train and mentor farmers on beekeeping, hive management, pest and disease control, harvesting, hygiene, and marketing.
  • Supervise beekeeping training and ensure quality delivery.
  • Promote climate-smart and sustainable beekeeping practices suited to local conditions.
  • Monitor project progress and prepare technical reports and work plans.
  • Support farmers in proper use and maintenance of hives and equipment.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Degree in Agriculture, Apiculture, Veterinary, Forestry, Zoo Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years’ experience in apiculture/beekeeping.
  • Experience in beekeeping training, honey production, marketing, and product promotion.
  • Practical skills in bee handling, colony assessment, honey processing, and disease diagnosis.
  • Good communication and report-writing skills in English and Swahili.
  • Knowledge of coastal beekeeping environments, particularly Kwale County, is an advantage.
  • Valid Kenyan Class A2 motorcycle licence and willingness to ride in rural areas is an added advantage.
