Job Description

The Aga Khan Hospital, Mombasa—a key institution within the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya (AKHS)—is part of a regional network of hospitals and outreach centers across East Africa. The Hospital is seeking dedicated and qualified professionals for the following positions:
  1. Operations and Business Development

Key Responsibilities
  • Day-to-Day Management: Oversee operations across outpatient (OPD), ambulatory care, Accident & Emergency (A&E), inpatient services, and diagnostics to ensure smooth patient flow, efficient capacity utilization, and safe care.
  • Performance Monitoring: Track and optimize core KPIs, including patient volume, bed occupancy, average length of stay (ALOS), wait times, turnaround times, and resource allocation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Design and implement process improvement initiatives to elevate quality standards, patient access, and operational productivity.
  • Workforce & Resource Planning: Partner with HR and clinical leads on workforce scheduling, team development, performance management, and equipment maintenance/capital asset planning.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure strict adherence to hospital policies, quality accreditation standards, regulatory guidelines, clinical governance, and patient safety protocols.
  • Growth Strategy: Support the formulation and implementation of the hospital’s business development, marketing, and commercial growth strategies.
  • New Service Lines: Evaluate market opportunities to introduce new clinical services, service-line expansions, and care packages aligned with clinical capabilities and financial targets.
  • Market Intelligence: Monitor healthcare industry trends, competitor activities, referral networks, and customer demands to inform strategic decisions.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Build and maintain active relationships with corporate clients, insurance providers, referring physicians, and healthcare organizations to grow patient volume and referrals.
  • Brand & Marketing Oversight: Lead marketing campaigns, professional outreach, CME events, and community engagement to increase visibility and service utilization.
  • Patient Experience: Utilize Net Promoter Score (NPS), patient feedback, and complaints to drive service quality enhancements.
  • KPI Reporting: Evaluate marketing and business development effectiveness through agreed metrics (campaign ROI, corporate client retention, referral growth, and revenue contribution).

Qualifications & Key Competencies
Education
  • Bachelors Degree: Business Administration, Healthcare Management, Operations Management, Marketing, or a related field (Required).
  • Masters Degree: MBA (Marketing focus preferred) or Masters in Healthcare Administration/Management (Desirable).

Experience
  • 5–7 years of progressive management experience, ideally within a hospital or healthcare environment.
  • Proven track record in healthcare operations, clinical service delivery, and process improvement.
  • Demonstrated success in business development, corporate relationship management, marketing, and revenue growth.
  • Strong leadership background with experience managing cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.
